It is illegal to use any of the Hi HelpIndex programs beyond the 30 day evaluation period without purchasing the full version. You must not reuse, decompile or otherwise misuse the Hi HelpIndex software. Note carefully that the words "pay" or "purchase" mean the purchase of a licence to use the software, not purchase of the software outright.

Evaluation Licence

Note that the evaluation Hi HelpIndex is deliberately limited to displaying a maximum of 500 keywords and a maximum of 100 URLs. This will in fact be big enough for a lot of sites. If you need to test the software with no limits, please contact PHD for a temporary licence.
The full version of the software has no limits.

By downloading the software, you are accepting a licence to evaluate Hi HelpIndex for 30 days. Paying for the full software gives you a further licence to use the unlimited Hi HelpIndex thereafter, with support and upgrades for 12 months.

From the date that you receive the development kit, you have 30 days free trial. When the 30 days are up, please pay for the full version or remove Hi HelpIndex from your system and web pages. If you pay before 30 days, then your free trial is deemed to have ended.

Note that people who use your site do not have to pay to use Hi HelpIndex. If people can download all your site then they will have to license Hi HelpIndex after 30 days.

Developer Version

Hi HelpIndex Developer Version is for people who wish to put Hi HelpIndex on their CD-ROMs, make an HTML Help system or use the Hi HelpIndex and Hi Brow beans. For example, put your web based documentation on a CD-ROM with Hi HelpIndex as its Contents and Index. You can distribute Hi HelpIndex royalty free as a part of any number of products. You must not make the Hi HelpIndex developer tools available, or sell your product as doing a similar function to Hi HelpIndex. If in doubt, please check with PHD that your proposed use does not contravene the licence.

• Purchasing a full software licence primarily legitimises your use of Hi HelpIndex and allows you to build larger index files.
• Purchasing entitles you to updates for one year.
• Entering the licence id in Hi Lab lets you run Hi HelpIndex without limits.
• Each purchase covers just one site, either generally available on the Internet or for use on your intranet.
  If you have more sites then please purchase a licence for each one.
  You can keep a local copy of your online pages and a backup copy.
• You can use Hi Lab and develop using the Hi HelpIndex and Hi Brow beans on only one computer.
• The Developer licence lets you include Hi HelpIndex and Hi Brow as a part of your product or on your CD-ROMs.
• PHD (or its support outlets) will try to provide reasonable technical support. Please be patient.
• You will be put on our mailing list and informed of any releases.
• Currently users do not receive a physical copy of Hi HelpIndex, ie we use electronic distribution.

If you want to use Hi HelpIndex for a mission critical application, you want to be sure that the software you choose will be supported over its lifetime. A source code escrow agreement gives you this security. If PHD goes bust or is otherwise unable to support Hi HelpIndex then our escrow service provider, ComponentSource, will release the full source to you. To use the source you will need to use both Java and C++ Windows programming specialists. You may only use the source within your organisation to support your use of Hi HelpIndex.

PHD fully intends to continue to support Hi HelpIndex. Indeed, the provision of a source code escrow facility shows that we are very committed to Hi HelpIndex.

Paying more for more!

Seriously though, if you have any features which you would definitely like in Hi HelpIndex, then please email Chris Cant. Please consult our list of possible improvements
If your suggestions are used, then you might like to pay us more for having been so helpful, ie perhaps you could pay for more licences than you actually need.

If we do not wish to take up your suggestions then we could still produce a version with them in, if you pay us at our normal daily rate. We will normally be able to give a fixed price quote for such a job. You would have sole use of the new version but all copyright would belong to us. You would still need to license each usage with us.
Note that such versions would not necessarily be updated in step with the main Hi HelpIndex program.

Distribution

You must make clear that Hi HelpIndex has a 30 day free evaluation period and belongs to PHD Computer Consultants Ltd. You must also email Chris Cant to let him know where you have put the kit. We want to be able to update development kits when new versions appear, so let us know how we do this.

However we recommend that you simply give the Hi HelpIndex URL http://www.phdcc.com/helpindex as our web site will always have the latest version of the software.

If you publish a link to these pages, then please let us know. If the site moves or changes significantly then we will inform you.

Reselling

Contact us if you have any doubts about what the licence covers, or would like to resell Hi HelpIndex or any other PHD product.

Warranty

NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall PHD Computer Consultants Ltd or its suppliers be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profit, loss of business information, business interruption, or any other pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use this PHD Computer Consultants Ltd product.

PHD will make a reasonable attempt to answer any queries from licenced users concerning Hi HelpIndex and its usage.

You can have a full refund if you have a legitimate problem with the software within 30 days of purchase.
